Actually, I found a reason to enter them--for the state return. Some states (like mine, California), have lower standard deductions than the federal amounts, so entering charitable donations might generate tax savings on the state return. https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/do-charitable-deductions-help-lower-my-state-tax-bill.html

Thanks. My schedule Cs are the only reason I buy Audit Defense--they are the most likely reason I'd get audited, since my Schedule A is so simple.

Normally if you use an accountant, you can deduct their charge for preparing your schedule C off next year's schedule C. But how do I do that with my purchase of the TurboTax program? Can I write that off my schedule C? Likewise, can I deduct my purchase of Audit Defense last year off this year's Schedule C?

My wife is contributing to her SEP-IRA but I do not have one (I do have a schedule C, but I am not making a SEP contribution from it). I'd like to contribute to a Traditional IRA instead. But TT tells me our income is too high while being covered by a retirement plan at work. I get that my wife's SEP means she's covered by a retirement plan at work, but why is that affecting my contribution? Shouldn't the two be separate?

I'm not itemizing (but I do have a schedule C). Is there any reason to bother entering all of my charitable receipts? They won't make any difference towards pushing me over the standard deduction amount.

I've read that my regular passive loss carryover can be found on form 8582, column b. But TT is also asking me for mt AMT carryover. Where would I find that on last year's taxes?
