EUREKA!
I stumbled onto a fix they didnt provide us. Instead of checking the box in step by step mode I entered the checked box in 7a in the forms mode and saved and did error check from forms and was all good. When I when back to step by step mode the and ran for errors the issue did not trigger.
UPDATE******
EUREKA!
I stumbled onto a fix FOR SOFTWARE BUG. Instead of checking the box 7A in step by step mode I entered the checked box in 7A in the forms mode and saved and did error check from forms mode and was all good. When I when back to step by step mode the and ran for errors the issue did not trigger an error either.
I had the same issue. I had to delete Form B. Reload everything (took me an extra 3 hours), and then the form was correct. I use the online software. It is a bug that was not fixed from last year. Good Luck.
I have the same problem now. I'm using TurboTax online, and I only discovered this problem after I submitted it. While entering the information, I went back 3 or 4 times to confirm that I don't have a foreign account, but when I printed out my Tex return, 7a still showed "Yes." I'm panicking now and don't know what to do or how I can fix this problem.
While that is considered one of the most important questions on the tax return, there is nothing in your case to be added or reported. Worldwide income should be reported. Foreign accounts are reported through the global banking system. You don't have foreign bank accounts nor do you foreign income to report on extra forms. The IRS will not receive any reports on you. When you file next year, mark no and you should not have any issues.
I'm having this same problem. I did not catch it before I filed. The IRS flagged my return and is holding my refund until they review it. I went back and checked my return and found the error so I'm assuming that's the issue. I guess I'll see what happens.
I have this issue! I submitted my return tonight because all the information was correct. I reviewed it multiple times. After, I downloaded my return and I'm seeing this mistake. Along with one other.
I 100% selected no but 7a is marked yes in the return I filed. I don't know what to do!
I had this problem last year. I ended up getting it escalated with Turbo Tax support and even they could not help me. i was trying to file an amendment without that box being checked and it was not possible with the online software. Once that box is checked you cannot uncheck it. They told me I could purchase the actual software you install on your computer because it gives control to edit each form individually. Good Luck.
Thanks for responding- what did you end up doing?
Wow this seems like a huge error and the fact that they haven't fixed the bug, even though many people have been having this issue for a while now, and their only fix is for you to buy their software is so scammy and upsetting.
Honestly, this is my last straw with turbotax. They made two other mistakes on my 2024 return, so I am just hoping it gets rejected by the IRS. If that is the case, I will file with another service because this is ridiculous. And then if not, I will amend my return with an accountant next tax season. IRS says you have up to 3 years to amend returns. What pisses me off is that not only did I pay for this, but now I will have to spend more money trying to rectify their issues. What a joke.
I did not end up doing anything. The IRS is still reviewing my return (8 months later!) . I really don't even know if this bug caused them to flag my return because they won't tell me. I discovered this bug because I went over my return (after they flagged it) trying to figure out if I made an error. I have called them several times and they just tell me it's still being reviewed. It's frustrating.
2025 and this issue still exists. Using Online version of TT. The manual workarounds described in this thread demonstrate how useless Turbo tax is. A waste of time and money.
Can we get a fix????
If you're using TurboTax Online, go back to the interview section where you indicated NO to Foreign Accounts and Trusts and check that response again.
Then close the program, clear your Cache and Cookies, then open TurboTax to a different area.
Normally, this will come up in your Final Review, and you'll have an opportunity to indicate check NO, and Efile successfully.
For anyone still having this problem do you all hold any mutual funds or ETFs that invest in foreign markets? I think that might be triggering TurboTax's system to constantly mark 7a as 'Yes' since the IRS does state that a 'Financial Account' can include: shares in a mutual fund or similar pooled fund (that is, a fund that is available to the general public with a regular net asset value determination and regular redemptions).
I spent hours struggling with this and tried the suggestions in the forum with no luck. I finally connected with a live person at TT who gave me the solution: On the line that has a green square with a white check mark and "Line 7a should be blank" (above the screenshot of Schedule B, part III), click on the green square. It will go blank. This cleared it up.
