I came to the Community with the hope (fantasy?) that there might be a way to enter data directly into forms for those of us who actually know what we're doing. Apparently no such "way" exists. I have the same complaint. Having to enter by hand all of the data into worksheets or 1099s is laborious and ridiculously time consuming. It's not why I spend money on tax software.
I don't care about TT's guarantee, but I do care about efiling and TT won't allow this without your spending hours and hours completing their stupid TT-forms. This seems to be a problem with intuit: It treats it's customers as though they are not competent at accounting.
Would be nice if TT allowed one the choice direct entry with efiling but no guarantee.
If you just want to enter the tax data directly onto forms and schedules, then do not use any tax preparation software.
Go to this IRS website for Free File Fillable Forms - https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/free-file-fillable-forms
It may not be recommended to use forms directly, but it is the only option since TT does not correclty handle line 9b of form 8960 otherwise. But TT will not let me enter data on line 9b directly. I've tried some various worksheets but that hasn't fixed the error. Please just answer the question as to how to get TT to accept an entry on line 9b of form 8960. (Or have TT correct its handling of that line).
I purchased TurboTax download so that I can recreate my 2021 tax that was filed through another tax software. I need to amend it and the other tax software did not do what I needed. How can I just enter that tax for directly into Turbo Tax so that I can then amend it?
You will need to use the Step-by-Step process to enter your personal information to get the return started. Once that is complete you can use the Forms icon at the upper right of the screen to switch to forms mode. If you do not see a form you need, you can search for it at the top of the list on the left and enter your information as with the other forms. Once the return is prepared see How to amend to amend the return.
