Form 3115 filing deadline - very confused

Hi, the internet seems to be not clear on this so asking. I am a day trader wanting to make a mark to market election. I am filing for an extension for my 2024 taxes. For 2025 tax year, can I file form 3115 by Oct 15th along with 1040 or do I need to file it along with the Extention Form 4868. Please help!

For the 2025 tax year you file form 3115 with your timely filed 2024 tax return.  It's timely filed if it is filed by the due date including extensions.  So you will include 3115 with the return that you file later this year in order to have the new accounting method recognized for 2025.
