Not everyone will have a Sch 2 so read that line again ... if you don't have one you should be able to skip that line. https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out/help
Read the line ... if they do not have a Sch 2 then line 13 minus nothing is still just line 13 ...
Enter your parents’ income tax for 2018. Income tax amount is the total of IRS Form 1040—line 13 minus
Schedule 2—line 46. If negative, enter a zero here.
Does this apply even if I do not have my parents on my FASFA account? I have filed independently
Not sure which line you are asking about so you will have to read the lines yourself ... if you do not have something then it is nothing to the application. If you need more help I put in a link for assistance or call the school.
Is this the FAFSA question that you are trying to answer?
"37. Enter your (and spouse’s) income tax for 2020. Income tax amount is the total of IRS Form 1040—line 22 minus Schedule 2—line 2. If negative, enter a zero here."
It does not say that your income tax is on Schedule 2. It says that the amount of tax that you should enter is the amount on Form 1040 line 22 minus the amount on Schedule 2 line 2. If you do not have Schedule 2 in your 2020 tax return, then you have nothing to subtract. Just enter the amount of tax from Form 1040 line 22.
The first test to becoming a college student is definitely the FASFA application so let me give you a couple of test taking tips to get you thru any test ...
1) read the question carefully ... look at all the words even the little ones
2) read the question again out loud to yourself ... find and emphasize the key words
3) find the nexus of the question ... what is it really asking about
4) be wary of "absolutes" like always and never ... life is not always black and white
5) don't get hung up on any question ... pass it up and come back to it later ... many times a later question will jog your memory or actually give you the answer
6) when all else fails ask the teacher for clarification (if allowable) or search for the answer in a textbook or instruction guide
