This fix does not work. It automatically populates a zero in the box.
I have tried over and over to remove the zero. It doesn't seem to work. It auto populates a zero in the box. How did you get it to remain blank?
It autopopulated a zero at the start, but it allowed me to erase it and click continue. If that doesn’t work, maybe try typing a 0 or other number yourself and then removing it.
This solution is specifically for @Earlybird2008. Others may not have this issue.
Go to Forms Mode & open the Car & Truck Wks for this vehicle. Remove the Supporting Details from Line 6a and leave the line blank. TurboTax expects a valid entry when you have supporting details.

I tried putting in 12/31/2021 but got an error saying it want a 2023 date. So I tried 1/1/2022 but then I got stuck on the zero miles entry. I am going to try the 0 total miles approach and see how that goes. This was/is a bit confusing. The should be a note regarding this.
No supporting details involved anywhere in the form. Still same problem.
if you didn't use the vehicle at all during the year, enter zero for Total miles driven and zero for business miles from 1/1 thru 6/30.
If you used the vehicle only between 7/1-12/31, enter actual total miles and business miles for 7/1-12/31 only. As long as the total miles are at least as much as the business miles, the entry should be accepted.
This year the mileage rate changed mid-year, which caused some confusion over how to report miles for a vehicle that was not used the entire year. A combination of zero or blank entries may need to be tested in order to resolve the issue on some returns. The only information of interest to the IRS is the number of business miles used to calculate the vehicle deduction.
I ended up leaving the 7/1 - 12/31 field blank. Weird that if you stop using in 3/2022 why would it matter if it’s a zero or blank?
I called TT and talked to a great rep who solved the problem for me. Here are the answers I used for Business and Income Expenses:
Make and Model: Whatever you have
Type of Vehicle: Whatever you have
When did you start using the vehicle: my date is 07/18/2018
I stopped using this vehicle? leave it blank
Do you own this vehicle? Yes
Use for personal use? Next two questions are yes
Did you document work miles? yes
I'll enter the miles for 2022? Checked yes
Total miles driven for all purposes? I put in my actual mileage, 4815
Miles driven from 1/1 - 6/30? 1
Miles driven from 7/1- 12/31? 0
Commuting miles? 0
I'll enter my beginning and ending odometer? leave blank
Number of vehicles? 0-4 is checked
Want to see if your actual miles give you a bigger deduction? no
Everything else is blank
I hope this works for you. I feel like I'm giving the answers away to the test. Good luck!
I was able to fix this by entering 0 for total miles and 0 for the first half and leave second half blank. I DID stop using this vehicle in 2022 so put that date, sale price, expenses occurred etc and now everything is fine. However, since it now added a Schedule C because I sold my truck that was once used for business, it has put me at a high audit risk. I didn’t have a schedule C last year, which is odd because I too the standard mileage deduction.
Didn't find the "mark best answer" AliciaP1's answer at the top solved my problem
