TurboTax does not support IRS Form 709. The Form 709 is not included with a federal tax return. It has to be mailed separately and to a different address.
Go to this IRS website for a Form 709 -https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-709
Why do you need to file a Form 709? Did you send a gift to someone in excess of $17,000?
Or did you receive a gift? If you received a gift, it is not reported on a tax return regardless of the amount received. A gift received is not reported on a Form 709, it is not reported at all.
Hey TurboTax Admin. Why don't you support the filing of form 709? As a download customer that pays money for your product to do my taxes and file electronically, the fact that i now have to manually print out, fill out and mail in form 709, separate from my return, is a big pain in the ass.
@Barrygbg1 The Form 709 cannot be e-filed nor can it be mailed to the same address as a federal tax return.
As stated in the Form 709 instructions -
Where To File
File Form 709 at the following address.
Department of the Treasury
Internal Revenue Service Center
Kansas City, MO 64999
If using a PDS, file at this address.
Internal Revenue Service
333 W. Pershing Road
Kansas City, MO 64108
They should... even though they don't - it's going to be needed more and more.
@heath_durbin Form 709 is not an income tax return form and is never filed as part of an income tax return. TurboTax does not support Form 709. TurboTax supports forms that may be included with income tax returns.
Gifts given to family members, friends or other individuals are not deductible. Gifts received are not taxable to the person who received the gift, and are not entered on a tax return.
If your gift exceeds the yearly limit ($18,000 per individual) imposed by the gift tax rules, then you will need to complete a Form 709 gift tax form and send it to the IRS, although it is very unlikely that you will owe any tax.
TurboTax does not support Form 709. It is not an income tax form and would not be included as part of an income tax return.
