Does a graduate assistant position qualify as "employer provided assistance"?

No, the funds received are not employer provided. You should have received a 1098-T with the amount received listed is in Box 5. If you did not receive a 1098-T or the information was not included on a W-2, you will enter the information as "Other Scholarships", not as Employer Provided funds. Enter the amount you received in the box next to "Other Scholarships/Grants/Fellowships". If you used a portion of the amount you received for education expenses, click continue until you reach the "Did You Pay for Room and Board with a Scholarship or Grant?" Answer yes. When the additional sections populate, enter the amount of the funds that were used for room & board, travel, research, etc. 

If the funds were included on a W-2, you will not enter any information for the amount in the Education section.
