1099 for contractors

Hello,

I am just working on my taxes for the year 2022. I had paid to contractors during 2022 for home improvements on my primary home prior to sale as well as improvement on a rental property.

However, I just realized that I may need to issue 1099 to the contractors since the amounts were more than $600. Am I too late to do it at this point? Also, is this only applicable if the contractor was an individual? Assuming I engaged a company for the contracting work, am I not required to provide any 1099s?

Appreciate any insights and help.

If it matters, I am in CA and live in an area that has extended timeline (till Oct 18) for both federal and state tax filing (due to disaster zone declaration).

1099 for contractors

No, as a homeowner, you do not need to issue a 1099 to a contractor that does work on your house.  If you were a contractor or business and hired another contractor, then you would have to issue the 1099. This rule does not apply to you as an individual.
