I need to change the bank account number on my Federal and state tax returns as I owe taxes on both returns.

Wrong bank account

If you have already filed your tax return you cannot change the banking information.   If you are not getting a refund, then you do not have to enter banking information.   Banking information is entered so that you can receive a direct deposit.  if you are not getting a deposit, you do not have to enter information for one.

Or...did you enter information for a direct debit to pay tax due.....and now you want to change that or reschedule the payment?  What are you trying to do?

Wrong bank account

If you haven't filed yet, you can change your bank information in your return:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Select the File section.
  3. Select Start to the right of Step 2.
  4. Change your choices about paying your taxes here.

If you already e-filed your tax returns and they were accepted, you will need to cancel the payments that you arranged with the wrong bank information.

If you have your confirmation number, you can use that number to look up, modify or cancel a scheduled payment before it happens.

Select the option “Look Up a Payment” on the main Direct Pay page to enter your confirmation number and make changes. You have until two business days before the payment date to cancel or make any changes. Follow this link for Direct Pay.

You will need to contact your state to update that payment as well. If you want more details about that, respond with the name of your state.
