Won a prize check on 12/25 and filled put tax paperwork. They said check will be written and sent after new year. What is file year for prize?

Won a prize check on Christmas day, filled out tax info on it that day. They said the check will be written and sent after January 2nd, maybe the following week. What year do I claim it for? If its 2023, it will put me in a new tax bracket. And because of the new bracket most of prize check will go to taxes for the new bracket. They also said they will take taxes out of the prize check. But prize money equals income to the man.

Wait for the check ... look at the date ... if it was written in 2023 then it goes on the 2023 return even if you do not get the check in the mail until 2024.
