Why wasn’t I given the option for an advance?

No one here knows why.  However, here are some of the eligibility requirements to qualify for a Refund Advance loan:

  • You’re 18 or older
  • You’re not a resident of North Carolina, Connecticut, or Illinois
  • You’re e-filing your federal tax return with TurboTax
  • Your physical address is listed on your tax return. Your address must be located in one of the eligible states and can’t be a PO box or prison address
  • You’re not filing one of these tax forms: 1310, 4852, 4684, 4868, 1040SS, 1040PR, 1040X, 8888, or 8862
  • You aren’t filing on behalf of a deceased taxpayer
  • You must report income on a Form W-2, 1099-R , Sched C, or Sched CEZ

You had to select other options under where it asks how you want to receive your refund. A lot of people missed it.

I wasn’t even given the option. Is there a way to change it

@cholvey17814 The loan has to be offered to you --- you cannot apply for it.   If it was not offered then you are not eligible for some reason

REFUND ADVANCE LOANS

No-one in the user forum can see your information, so we cannot tell you why you did not qualify for the advance.   It might have something to do with the state you live in, or you might have some other disqualifying reason—-we cannot see nor can we exert any control over it.

Why wasn’t I given the option for an advance?

thanks, I didn't see this when looking up eligibility, and without checking the forms I filed I see already I am a resident of one to the states that doesn't offer it (for whatever unfair reason).

I wonder if other companies also cannot do the advance for the same states?

  • They hide it very well. Trust me I didn't see it 2 years ago got it last year, didn't see it this year. Will be my last time using turbo tax after 8 years of using them.

You are offered the Refund Advance if you qualify.

If you didn't qualify for Refund Advance, it may be because:

  • Your federal refund was not $500 or more. You did not agree to all the Refund Advance terms and conditions.
  • You owed the U.S. Government or your State.

Why wasn’t I given the option for an advance?

@Cynthiad66 yes I know all this I qualify I get the non stop emails since November reminding me I can get a head start yada yada yada.  Problem is its misleading and you think you'll come to section about it  with it highlighted a little more. But it's hidden then cause you already filed can do nothing about it. Except go with someone else the following season. Found recently (today) that Jackson Hewitt advances more than turbo too.
