Which IRS DirectPay 'Reason for Payment' dropdown option do I choose to pay regular 1040 income tax? "Tax return or notice" is not listed on the drop down.

Have tried "Balance due" and other options but get the error: "Your identity could not be verified. Please review and re-enter your information or try a different tax year."

Are you trying to pay the Tax Due for your current 2020 return?  Do you pick these choices?

Ok thank you. I was able to get that to work, you have to select a previous year on the 'Verification year' on the next screen. I kept selecting the current year. Thank you

Glad you figured it out.  I never saw that verification screen before since I never paid online.
