After you efile a return successfully the IRS can take anywhere from 4 days to forever to process it and release the refund so don't ever count on it to come on any certain date and you will not be disappointed.
The severely backlogged IRS has been taking a long time to process many of the 2020 returns filed in 2021. We cannot tell you how long it will take them to process the 2021 returns that people will begin filing soon. We can tell you that the IRS will not begin to accept e-files until about the end of January so they will not be processing them before the end of January or early February. The earliest refunds are unlikely to be received by anyone until late February, although sometimes there are a few exceptions. Do not count on being one of the exceptions.
And…..if you are trying to rush because you get earned income credit or the child tax credit——the PATH act means you cannot get your refund until the end of February at the earliest—so filing early will not get you an early refund.
And....are you receiving Social Security disability? You will need to enter your SSA1099 ---SS sends those out in January. Or if you are receiving some other sort of disability pay you might need to wait for your W-2 or 1099 for the disability income. Wait for all of the tax documents you need before you file your tax return. They should get to you by the end of January or very early February.
