What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

All I can say is to just be patient. I filed February 4th received review letter dated February 26th . Haven’t received stimulus or refund yet. Continuously was getting the runaround and told wait an additional 60 days every time. Last week I finally got something in the mail fr IRS telling me there was holdup because of misinformation on a w2, I was requested to send in my w2’s. I have sent the required items to them last week and will let you all know how soon they process my return. Again I know it’s hard but just be patient I guess they’re slowly and I mean very slowly working though the backup pile

I had an appointment today with the IRS I filed my return in March by mail because I was unable to retrieve my Pin in the mail because I moved and didn’t change my address. I tried to verify my identity online but have been unsuccessful because my cellphone is in my husband name they can’t use my nelnet student loan account # or my auto loan number so I’ve been stuck on your tax return is STILL being processed for 4months now. Well today at my appointment I was only there 9mins to be exact and I was able to verify my identity and I should be receiving my refund within 6weeks with my stimulus payment right behind. This has been a very stressful tax season! My advice is to call the IRS BACK ASK THEM TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO GO INTO THE OFFICE! The lady I spoke to on the phone yesterday stated that if it’s been longer then the allotted time then the representative are supposed to have you come into the office. Spoke with them yesterday and my appointment was today! Good luck everyone we got to keep our heads up

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
If over 21 days since being Accepted by the IRS and the tax refund is still Processing you can call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent concerning your tax refund.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

I'm not sure if this is still an active post but I'm hoping so! What are the bars that you are referring to? Is it on a certain website page? I've been tracking my refund and my daughters since April and keep getting the same message "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." for both of us. That probably the other 9 million people have been getting that have not received their refund or stimulus check yet. We both received the Marketplace letter 2 weeks ago also, which turbotax failed to include in our tax filings by not asking the questions pertaining to it. Not sure what glitch was going on there?? But would sure like to know the answer to that one!! Anyway rant over, what are the bars your referring to please? Getting desperate to pay some Bill's due to coronavirus extended illness and health damage. Which is what the stimulus was supposed to be for after all! Except for the 9 million of use who probably needed it the MOST! Anyone who could answer would be greatly appreciated!!

My IRS message is the same as yours, but I'm pretty sure I know what the bars are, from previous years and from the Facebook groups I belong to, who have the same issue.  When things get moving, there should be a colored bar across the top.  The bar goes from orange to red, depending on where you're at in the process.  I think it won't show on your phone, but on the desktop version of "Where's my refund?"

What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

The reason it says processing is because Turbo Tax does not have an agreement with the IRS and so it will always say processing.  I'm still waiting for my amended tax return i filed in July!  This year has been hard for everyone and the IRS is giving options on how to pay our bills.  Well I've got an option, how about they pay us!!  We would not have issues paying our bills if they would pay us!!  It's almost Thanksgiving!  This is beyond ridiculous!!!

@terry-kimball

The IRS has not been working on mailed returns until very recently---and an amended return could only be filed by mailing it in until late August 2020 when the IRS began to accept e-filed 2019 amended returns.   Under normal circumstances you would be able to see something about your mailed in Form 1040X after about three weeks, but that is not the case right now.  The usual 4 months for processing an amended return is going to take longer.  Sorry.

Processing Delays for Paper Tax Returns: Taxpayers should file electronically through their tax preparer, tax software provider, or IRS Free File

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

If you mail a tax return (or a payment) to the IRS, it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail so you will know it was received.

TurboTax will not know anything about your amended return, and nor will TT know that you put your 1040X  in an envelope and took it to a mailbox.  TurboTax does not get updates on mailed  (or e-filed) returns.

When the IRS finally opens its mail and begins to process mailed returns you can check the status on the IRS site.

I started trend when I knew months ago that I would not be the only one in this boat. Imagine waiting on tax money because needing Heating during the Louisiana weather and could not afford. By the like you we are hurting and still trying to hold on.

Get in touch with the tax advocate in your area and whatever date the IRS says that they will respond be sure the advocate have some some of information in writing rather than presenting a date over the phone. Turbotax says that it was accepted in February and received the stimulus but not our refund, quite odd if you ask me. Also I would like to start a thread about the businesses that are not giving customers like ourselves more time to pay on bills later on today or tomorrow. I feel businesses should be aware that this is a pandemic and it is getting worse day by day and asking for more time after burying someone or taking them to the hospital is a money puncher to the heart and the stomach.

-Continue to stay strong and if you believe, Prayed Up

What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

Very good knowledge.

I dont know how productive will it be working with a tax advocate, if the IRS gives her a definite date for our tax money I will honestly give her a shout out. It ain't easy, even the IRS don't like Trump, lol (that's what he said) anyways. I am going to start a thread on businesses that are not working with families during the pandemic and now during the holidays. I feel that other consumers should be aware of businesses that are greedy and better yet business that has absolutely been a Godsent or a blessing during this pandemic. Try your best and not to amend anything, until the IRS is upfront with you and tell you why or what options are there so that you can receive your money.

What does "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Exactly mean?

This Covid-19 crisis has taken a toll on Everyone and I feel certain businesses like Chacon Autos in Dallas has not been keen on understanding that there is a pandemic occurring and people donot have the ability of paying 215 dollars every 2 weeks. As a disabled veteran I am a person that has a lot of integrity.

If anyone has a concern during this pandemic and especially since the IRS has not followed through with giving us our tax money and we are nearing the end of 2020 and since we have been waiting over 7 months.

File with the Better Business Bureau if there are any concerns of any businesses calling everyday and donot want to consider a payment arrangement, settle withe the bbb or leave them a terrible feedback because theybare understanding that there are people dying or may not be able to pay a light bill or medical bill because of an illness or Covid-19.
