Why don't any of my friends or family who use accountants have this problem?
I am a tax pro and my clients are not immune from a random ID check ... even one of my employees, an enrolled agent with the IRS, got a ID verification letter.
There are exceptions. Let me guess -- in that situation, you help your client?
Why do they mark this as "Solved" when so many of us still have this problem?
Here's another fun trick by the IRS: I just called at 9:05 a.m. Eastern time, and they were closed. "Our normal business hours are 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. OK, in what time zone? If you don't say it, I'm going to guess that it's Eastern time. Yet, this was more than two hours after their "opening time."
I got the letter, but I have already got my return back now what?
If you got your refund, you can ignore the letter.
