How long will it take for me to get refund after i sent audit documents?

The estimated time frame for receiving a refund after sending in audit documents is approximately 4-8 Weeks.  If you send in exactly what is requested, you should be on the quicker end of processing.

I was audited, sent the information back, case was closed 4/5/18.  Waiting for the explanation letter.  Took about two months.

I'm being audited... irs received my documents March 30th and yesterday I got a letter saying the will review my documents by September 16th,2018... what documents did you send when did you get the audit letter?  I need my money... this is so frustrating.

Same here. They received all my documents by the end of March and I received a letter that it would be mid-September. I am hoping it is sooner. My accountant assures me everything is in order, it's just a waiting game now. One I can't afford.

Please let me know how did you find out I never received anything I talked to the advocate and she is working on my case and she told me my refund under audit review I need my refund so bad it’s been from Jan 28 when I filed and nothing till today

I first noticed there was a problem when I went to Where's My Refund. I had to wait for a letter in the mail. I sent everything in they asked for. A few weeks later I received a letter in the mail that they received everything and would have it reviewed by September 2018. You should have at least received an initial letter in the mail to send things in. There is a phone number at Where's My Refund to call for information. I'd do that if I were you. I'm pretty upset that it's taking so long also. I really need my refund. I did hear they will pay interest though. And I've also heard next year will be even worse.

Only the IRS can tell you why they have not yet released your Federal refund.  If you have an IRS phone number from an IRS audit letter you have received, you can phone them for info at that number on your letter.  Otherwise,  I'll tell you how to reach a live IRS agent below.   If you can't get good answers from the IRS, I'll also be telling you below how to contact the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service.

Here's how to reach a live agent at the IRS:

800-829-1040 (7AM-7 PM local time) Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

• First choose your language.  Then listen to each menu before making the selection.
• Then press 2 for "personal income tax".
• Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".  
• Then press 3 "for all other questions."
• Then press 2 "for all other questions." 
• It might transfer you to an agent at that point.   If it doesn't it may ask for your SSN, but do not enter it.  Just wait.    If it asks for SSN a second time, still do not enter it.
• Then you'll get another menu.  Choose 2 for "personal" then you should be transferred.

I usually use a speakerphone so I can work on something else while waiting.

If you don't get good info/results from the IRS, you can contact the IRS Taxpayer Advocate for your area.   They are especially prone to help if you have a hardship, or if there have been continued delays with lack of info from the IRS.    At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your IRS Taxpayer Advocate.
