The amount of my tax refund I received? I made an amend change due to school interest form that came in after I filed and that changed the total amount.

I didn't receive the amount of the amend once I added the school interest.

First you will receive your original refund, if after amending you are due an additional refund you will receive it in a separate payment.

All amended tax returns must be filed by mail. If you have already mailed your amended return, it can take up to 3 weeks to show up in the IRS system.

You can check the status of your amended return by clicking the link below:

https://www.irs.gov/filing/individuals/amended-returns-form-1040-x/wheres-my-amended-return-1

If you haven't yet mailed your amended return follow the steps below to print and mail it.

To print your amended return, follow the steps below.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/5308030

When you mail Form 1040-X you should include the following forms:

  • The new (amended) Form 1040
  • Any forms or schedules that were added or changed as a result of preparing the amendment

It takes the IRS up to 16 weeks to process amended returns.  Also, depending on whether the changes affect your numbers, you may also be required to file an amended return with your state.

The mailing address for your state and situation can be found at https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040x.pdf.  Look under Where to File on page 14.
