Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I chose to file my taxes by mail, but after I said ready to file, I realized I forgot a w2. Do I need to amend it even though I havent mailed it off yet?

No, you do not need to amend. You only amend if your return has already been e-filed *AND* accepted by the IRS, *OR* you have already dropped it in the mail. Otherwise, you can just log in, make your changes and then reprint.

Unfortunately I don't see an option to make changes to the original. It only lets me print it so it looks like I'll have to make a new account.

No, you don't need to do that. Since you're using the free version, at worst you "should" be able to select the "clear & start over" option under My Account. I'm not that familiar with the online version myself. But it's my understanding that if you've already registered (whatever that is for the free version, I don't know) then there is a way to do this in the TOOLS section under My Account. So check in there first.

First, you will need to get back into your return to make the changes by following the steps below ( Since you have not mailed the form yet there is no need to Amend). You will then be able to add your W-2.

Try this work around:

  1. Sign into your account.
  2.  From the My TurboTax menu ( See attachment) Click on Visit My Tax Timeline .
  3. Under SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO click on Add a state. (You are not adding a state to your return.  This allows you to get back into your return.)
  4. Click on the File tab across the top below the Search option.
  5. On the Just one more step screen, follow steps 1 and 2 if you haven't already.
  6. Click the Start button to the right of Step 3.
  7. This will navigate you to the Here are your filing choices screen, click I'd like to change filing methods.
  8. Change your filing method to E-file and click Save.
  9. Click Continue and follow the onscreen prompts to e-file your return.

How to add a W-2:

  1. Select the "Federal Taxes tab".
  2. Select "Wages and Income"
  3. Choose Explore on my own or I'll choose what to work on
  4. Click Start/Update next to Wages and Salaries
  5. From there you can enter your W-2
