I just received a letter of additional income of 2,151.00 my tax return was sent in already. how do i add this to my taxes? and how do I find out if the IRS got my tax return I mailed it February 22 and still haven't received my refund?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You'll first need to check to see if the return was received by the IRS. However, they are extremely backlogged and as of May 8, 2021 had 16.9 million returns in the pipeline for processing. It will take some time to see the return show up on Where's My Refund. You can read more about what to expect here.
Paper-filed returns may be amended once they've been mailed, so you can add your additional income by following these instructions: How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed
I selected Amend my Return for 2019: Fed and State Returns were processed last year. I selected "amend my return", noticed my original tax owed was still displayed. I entered the income that I missed the first time and tax owed increased from the original to the sum of the original plus what I assumed is the additional tax. When I finished, the voucher showed the payable amount was the sum, not the additional tax owed.
What do I write the check for???
