The tax home screen for Intuit/Turbo Tax is so poorly designed. If you happen to owe taxes and you select the direct ACH withdrawal, there is no confirmation that this is going to occur.
In large font it tells you how much your taxes due are but never says anything like "this amount will be debited from your account". There is no easy way to see which account it will be debited from.
Additionally, they provide a link to the IRS payment website.
Yes, I paid online then followed the link to pay a second time. Now I'll be out some money for a substantial time.
After years of using TurboTax, I'm done.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
TurboTax has no way to know when or even if the taxes owed were ever paid, so that type of information will never be shown on the TurboTax Tax Home web-page
If you selected to have the taxes owed paid from your bank account by direct debit, that information is on the Filing Instructions page for the tax return and on the Federal Information Worksheet in Part V of the worksheet.
The FI page and worksheet are available if you use Print Center and the option for all worksheets.
To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2024 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
Well, that's just it. Online, there are no links to filing instructions in Tax Home. If I download my return, there are no filing instructions there either.
Even if TurboTax doesn't track my actual payment, they should be able to track that I have entered that option for auto debit. Or at least find a way to make it more obvious.
"The FI page and worksheet are available if you use Print Center and the option for all worksheets."
Really? FFS, these are the hoops you have to jump through to get filing instructions?
