The 1040 line 30 stimulus claims $3,600 if you don't fill in anything. The claim is the default ! Anyway I filed yesterday, and instead of a $4000 refund I erroneously claimed $7,600... Turbo will not let me proceed with an an amended form saying it isn't ready yet. If I get a $7600 refund I will repay the $3600 same day as a 2020 tax payment. But what paperwork do I need to do ? I think defaulting to claiming a refund with no positive input required, is dangerous..

The IRS might make a correction automatically. Please see IRS Recovery Rebate Credit Q D2 What happens if I claim the incorrect amount? for additional information.
If your return has been accepted you will have to wait and see if your refund includes the additional credit. If yes then you will need to amend your return (1040X) and send the funds back to the IRS. Please see FAQ How to amend a tax return for instructions.
Please see the links below when Form 1040X is available:
Great answer - good plan. I will wait to see if the IRS picks up the error and amends the refund amount down without me doing anything. If they refund the full claim I will repay them same day I receive the check. I think turbo made a bad decision by setting up the supporting worksheet so that NO entry by me automatically causes a stimulus claim of $3,600... I didn't even see the supporting worksheet until after I had filed. I bet millions get stuck in this position... Thanks again..good plan..
