Scheduled tax due payment didn't happen - 12 days passed

Hello, not sure what to do or how to proceed.

My great mistake was to schedule tax due payment rather than paying it directly while filling. I owe Federal and NY state, and NJ owed return to me. Used the same bank account for all 3 transactions. All 3 tax returns were accepted and NJ money came quite fast, but 12 days passed from the scheduled date, and I don't see that either Federals or NY took the tax due.

I check the back account - and didn't see any attempts to take the money. I created account with IRS but it says I owe nothing - probably they don't include the 2021 taxes there.

I found the similar topic in this forum, and there was a phone provided - [phone number removed], I tried it, but looks this is just a service allowing to schedule/do a new payment.

But my goal is to figure out why the initial payment didn't happen and/or check the status. I don't want to be charged twice - the amount is really big, and it will cause a lot of pain if something like this happens.

Does turbotax has any visibility on what is going on, or it is fully up to IRS now?

How can I know what happened? I know that it is really bad situation - if I somehow pay now, I bet in few days the scheduled autopayment will happen and will screw my bank account - the amount is big. If I don't pay now then IRS will fine me later. No good choice left and no information.

It's not unusual for states (and sometimes IRS) to be a couple of days late direct debiting your account.  But 12 days is excessive.

TurboTax would have no info about the status of direct debits.  The PDF of your tax return would contain a sheet, "Electronic Filing Instructions" that would contain info about the method you chose to make payment of your tax liability.

I'd for sure contact NY State Department of Revenue to see if they can offer any guidance.  The IRS won't be available for telephone info.  They are so short-staffed right now.

The only way to "cover" yourself, of course, is to make payment again.  This would stop any penalty/interest accruing.  But since you've said the amount is quite large, this may not be an option for you.

Here's info for contacting NY DOR:

And if you decide to call the IRS, use the info I'm sharing below.

How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service?

Don’t send it again! The IRS took 2 months to debit my account for taxes due. I was a nervous wreck. But as a preparer I knew how backlogged their system is in processing so I held my breath and it finally cleared 8 weeks later.

Apologies, looks it was my fault. I'm not sure how I missed it - especially taking into account that I checked the transactions multiple times, but both state and IRS took taxes exactly on the scheduled date. And I didn't notice the balance difference because I received a transfer for the similar amount on the same day.
