TT works very well. It's the IRS that screws it all up for many reasons already mentioned. I don't see that TT did anything wrong, although maybe they screwed up line 30?? My line 30 appears correct.

Compiler: I have replied to quite a few posts regarding Line 30 mistakes. I don't know about IRS. I think they are doing a pretty good job of catching the mistakes and making the correct adjustment - even if it isn't the one we want to hear. I would rather take the bad news up front than find out two or three years later when hundreds or thousands of dollars in interest and penalties have been assessed by IRS. Turbotax cannot look me in the eye and tell me they did not make a totally wrong entry for me on Line 30. It's all verifiable by their own software. IRS is now spending tons of effort scrutinizing the Rebate Credit that was supposed to quickly put money in the hands of anyone who did not receive all their Stimulus checks. Dumping huge numbers of incorrect amounts on Line 30 certainly hasn't done anything to speed up the processing that IRS is tasked with. If TT got your Line 30 right, good for you - and everyone else whose was correct. That's not what this thread is about. It is about errors which are costing lots of people time and money.
Montana:
No problem. If TT made a mistake on line 30 and that costs you actual $$$ (fines/penalties) then doesn't TT guarantee their calculations? I assume you entered the correct stimulus payments in TT? When I error-checked mine it came to two blank lines to enter the 2 payments. That eventually led to line 30.
I am also referring to those with nothing on line 30 who have the same delays that we do and blame TT for the fact that their returns are > 21 days in limbo. I don't see how the IRS mess is TT's fault. That's like blaming your accountant for a perfectly crafted return with this crappy result.
Sorry, but this thread is about delays, not just errors in line 30.
Maddening to all of us!
Anyway, good luck. It looks like a long haul and it is an understatement to call it an annoyance. Even a correct entry in line 30 is causing delays, apparently, and that would not be TT's fault.
Compiler: The correct entry for me would be zero. If zero was in Line 30 and I had delays, I wouldn't have a bad thing to say about TT. Just for clarification, I am only referring to TT Online. I am not generalizing to anything that I haven't personally experienced. However, TT entered $1200 which is completely wrong. TT told me I was getting $3509 back from Federal. IRS tells me I am getting $2309 sometime around March 29th... I think it is reasonable for TT to refund all or most of the fees they charged me to file since the mistake was theirs. If you disagree, fine. You don't have any skin in the game. I do.
This is exactly what happened to me. Got a grand less because they put something on line 30 that was NOT supposed to be. Mines dated 22 of this month which was yesterday. Not sure what the date on my transcript means. But I as well am very upset! They should make this right!
csdsjpd30: If enough people stand their ground, TT will have to acknowledge their mistakes. I'm surprised they haven't censored me yet. After all, I'm on their Community Forum. I think I will start a brand new topic specifically addressing issues with Line 30. Most of this discussion is about Refund. Everyone thinks its about getting their Tax refund. I'm talking about TT giving it's customers a refund for botching their returns! Cheers.
Please do cause I know this isn’t MY fault as I paid for a service and because of TT error my refund is delayed! Never has had this happened before.
Montana:
Do we disagree? I don't see where.
I see you meant TT refund and I meant IRS refund.
I am curious: why did they put $1200 in line 30?
IF you got no stimulus, but your 2020 AGI was below $75K ($150K joint), then I think $1200 would be correct. Obviously that must not be the situation?
You have skin in the game. I don't know my situation since my return continues to "process."
Yess! I agree...they botched line 30 not me. Now my return is being reduced to something that I was entitled to in the first place. What the heck is happening with TT? No issues for years now the biggest problems ever!
I have always used Turbo Tax and never had a problem but this year it has been a headache. My return was accepted Feb 12 as well. As of 3/23/21 I still have no information coming through letting me know when I will receive it. Next year I will be trying something new unfortunately to file my taxes.
I'm going to scream this so that the people reading it will understand! I answered the questions that I had received (Yes) both the $1200 and $600 stimulus payments. I had nothing coming. When I looked at the 1040-SR that TT generated, Line 30 had $1200 entered. I should not have received any credit on Line 30. TT put that amount on Line 30. I didn't even know there was a problem until weeks later when I used the "Where's my Return" from IRS to find out why it was taking so long to get my Federal refund. As part of the process I looked at my 1040 line by line and figured out what the problem was. I can't state it any simpler than that. This same thing happened to many TT users. It's a big mess. There aren't any maybes. This is the fact. It's insulting that anyone would say all of us collectively should have checked our returns before we e-filed. What would alert us to check for this discrepancy? Tubotax automatically checks your Federal and State returns and tells you that everything is perfect. Yay! Now I can pay my $120 to TT and wait for my return...
If people answered the Yes/No question incorrectly or entered an incorrect amount for what they actually received, it is an entirely different situation (although related). I am only concerned about TT entering amounts in Line 30 that do not align with reality. Did I shout that loud enough? In case someone thinks I really did make a mistake, I have screen captures of the questions from TT and my responses. A customer service rep went through all of it with me. Thirty two years as a CPA and she couldn't figure out why TT would have put $1200 on Line 30. Am I getting through to anyone? After an hour on the phone she sent me a link to the Accuracy Guarantee Dept. which is just another way of saying she couldn't help me. The link is a joke in this case and she knew it. I have a case number from a second call which was answered by an actual customer service representative (not an independent CPA sitting in SF getting paid to take calls from her home office on a Sunday). The second customer service representative understood my concern. She gave me a new case number and said she would authorize a refund of my filing fees from TT. She also stated that I could not be immediately refunded because I had chosen to make payment out of my Federal Return. She said she could not process my refund until after their payment from IRS hit their account. I am not a fiction writer. I am only stating the facts. I am trying to raise awareness of this issue and rebutt some of the hasty comments that have been posted by "experts".
Absolutely!
Montana:
Thanks for the expanded clarification. That is ...bizarre.
Question: When you check on your refund, does it just say received/ "processing" or do you know for sure that line 30 is the reason for the hold-up. The delay might have nothing to do with it as it appears that plenty of people are in processing hell. It may be that your return goes thru with the credit stripped out.
I am sure Line 30 was a problem. There is a little "Details" box on "Where's My Refund" that gives information about the Recovery Rebate Credit. Bingo! That is why they stopped the refund process and did some extra review and reduced the amount of the refund TT said I was getting.
True, others are also experiencing delays. Many others are receiving their refunds in record fast times. I do not want to speculate if people who got a speedy refund also had errors on Line 30. My guess is that their returns were actually properly prepared and they moved through the IRS system without delay... Accuracy is everything when dealing with the IRS.
I woke up to an email from TT saying that my Refund is On the Way! Yay! But first it is going to hit inTuit's partner, TPG, to strip the $120 processing fee from my already reduced tax return. TPG is the partner responsible for collecting fees and processing the final Direct Deposit to your bank. No matter what - TT makes sure they get every penny due. The email I received stated that I can start checking my bank balance as early as tomorrow.
As soon as my stripped down refund is in my bank, I will follow up with TT Customer Service and see if the promise to refund my filing fees are true. If TT refunds my filing fees I will be whole. I will never have the satisfaction of TT admitting they made a mistake, but sometimes you just have to be satisfied with a victory. I'm sure I will end up with the standard response, "We want our customers to be happy!"
I could not find the little details box. It keeps telling me status unknown even though TT says they excepted my return and last year I didn’t get the $600 rebate the second time and I haven’t gotten the $1400 one this time what are they doing to us I will never use TT again
