Last year my application was also delivered to AUSTIN TX 73301 instead Austin TX 78714 and got processed. That’s not an issue.
My concern here is that the Agent wrote in the envelope the address Austin TX 73301 instead TX 78701
Probably yours was easy to forward to the right place since in your envelope was TX 78701
I hope they have implemented a system to process the mail to the right place fast However is weird that my acceptance Agent wrote right away the post TX 73301 and your mail was delivered also in TX 73301 Maybe they are processing ITINs also in this place.
Did you sent it with tax refund?
Do you have any idea how much would delay to process an ITIN with the tax refund that was sent first to IRS? now they have to forward my W7 application to de ITIN operation center
Yes Tax refund and itin application together. Last year took long time due to Covid. I mailed the documents in early July 2020 , got itin no end oct 2020 and refund received early dec 2020.
I only hope that if they have to forward my W7 to process my ITIN it won’t take long time Thank you
Something new I’d notice about this process The tracking information said USPS drop the envelope on March 20 2021in Austin TX 73301 The next two weeks I was getting messages from USPS your package is ready to pick up On April 3 2021 I got the message delivered ( Usps said on April 3 your package was delivered on March 20) So from where I have to start counting the weeks? March 20 or April 3?
My feeling is that the package really arrived to IRS hands on April 3 and for about two weeks the documents were on hold
Once again the IRS is stretched thin so I would stop thinking in day/weeks and start expecting it to take months ... could be as long as 6 months and not the usual 6-8 weeks. Once the ITIN is processed they send your docs back with a letter including the ITIN you can use to file the state return if needed. Then the return is forwarded for manual processing ... check the IRS site once a week for a progress update... it will eventually show up there.
I have sent my ITIN document with tax refund around around 20-Feb-2021 and got my ITIN numbers at 15-Apr-2021.
I am still waiting for my refund and expecting more delays after calling to IRS helpline.
Ok so you are just at the 6-7 week mark ... expect the paper return to take another month or 2 at least ... don't count on the refund on any certain date and you will not be disappointed.
At least you have no delays with your ITIN application I know there are delays but we are not in the same dramatic 2020 situation
Does anyone who sent their ITIN application on March 2021 got an answer? Thank you
Some others have reported about an 8 week turn around in ITIN applications so just hang in their while the IRS tries to do more with less yet again this year.
My Timeline
February 24 - sent paper return, W-7 and passport
March 1 - envelope arrived at the IRS offices
May 5 - the CP565 letter of approval arrived with the release date ITIN April 26
June 5 - I am still waiting for the original passport back
The problem is that in 3 weeks I have to leave for a trip abroad and I need a passport ... what do you advise me to do? is there hope that it will arrive in the next 14 days?
You can call the IRS toll-free at 800-829-1040 if you are in the United States or 267-941-1000 (not a toll-free number) if you are outside the United States. This service allows you to check the status of your application seven weeks after submitting Form W-7 and your tax return. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/how-do-i-apply-for-an-itin
