Why is SBTPG holding refunds?

After much research I want to know why SBTPG is holding refunds? This is not ok, and I want to know why Turbo Tax is not doing a thing about it? I will never use Turbo Tax or any other tax preparer that goes through SBTPG again. This is from SBTPG's website
"TPG does not hold your money. When a deposit is received from the IRS, your money is processed as soon as it received and typically issued within 24 hours of receipt. If you selected direct deposit, it may take 1-2 business days to reach your bank account. Your payment is not wired to your account."

They have been holding federal tax return for over 3 months and they do not answer my phone calls. I don't know what to do. I need help.

Happy to find this thread. I’m STILL being jerked around for my *2020* refund… yep, over a year now running in circles trying to contact the IRS (initiated a trace in Dec 2021 and haven’t heard a thing since, and obviously can’t get through). Hours on hold with TPG. Multiple unanswered service requests sent. What is the class action suit? Sign me up. Thousands of dollars stuck in limbo at this bank. It’s criminal.

I was told by tax product group that the do have my money and they did take the fees out but now it’s a system error so they can’t print me out a check I supposed to got my refund 6/29/2022 but was sent back by my bank after funds was rejected I been waiting weeks and Dey still failed to issue me a check lying for no reason most definitely reached out to my lawyer meeting with him this afternoon as of today 07/15/2022

@Oj7 They’re gonna tell you whatever they can to try and persuade you into thinking it’s the bank, system error, lost (Although it was never mailed or deposited, etc..) you can waste your time waiting or consult with a federal agency or attorney because ultimately that’s gonna be your only option, unless you don’t mind waiting possibly a year. I’ve been waiting for my refund since 2/24/22 I finally gave up and contacted the federal reserve. Enough is enough! Good luck tho!

My irs money was wired to santa Barbara and they have it! June 21 2022 and verified twice! No cash as of today! I pray the banking authorities take them down! They are stealing money from innocent customers!

@Shayboog - actually, not the FDIC, but as follows:

SBTPG is a subsidiary of Green Dot Bank.

Your refund is being deposited into a Green Dot Bank bank account and then withdrawn from that bank account and forwarded to YOUR bank (net of the fees that are due to Turbo Tax).

That means that the transaction is regulated by Green Dot Bank's regulators: the OCC and the CFPB.

I would suggest that an effective way to bring up the issues you are having is to complain to the OCC and the CFPB. If there are enough complaints, these two regulatory organizations will take notice.

I sent in All my verification documents it's been over a month and I still haven't received my money I called corporate they said that aren't any red flags nor there was no reason to ask for ID verification my name is Kierro Barefield I got the Attorney General involved and at this point I am asking whomever is responsible in holding my tax return to not only lose their jobs but I am seeking to have them punished within the furthest extent of the law I've reached out to Attorney General James in New York

@Kierro As a fraud prevention measure, the IRS or state can randomly request and require that you verify your identity. They do not even need a "reason." They have the right to make the request, and yes, it delays your refund. TurboTax gets no information at all from the IRS or the state after you file your tax return. TT is out of the picture and has nothing to do with the identity verification process you are going through with the IRS or state. The IRS is severely backlogged, so many things are taking much longer than normal. The "normal" time frame for getting your federal refund after verifying your identity is nine weeks---but it may take much longer than that due to the backlog at the IRS.

Only the IRS (or your state--we do not know which required you to verify your identity since you did not explain). Your best source of information is the IRS refund site or your state's refund site.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

It is now August 23, 2022 and I have not received my refund. I had to go through an excruciating process just to find the contact information for "Green.Bank" or www.taxpayer.sbtpg. This Green.Bank DOES hold refunds to accrue interest.

When I called, a recording said my refund was processing and that I can expect it within 2 to 3 business days. WHAT? It's the end of August and the IRS released funds back in April. I WILL NEVER USE TURBOTAX AGAIN. WHAT A SCAM. I am not confident that I will receive my refund in 2 to 3 business days.

@lawyerlib - the real issue is requesting your fees be netted out of the refund. if the fees are paid when the taxes are submitted this round about process would not occur. the refund would come directly from the IRS to your Bank without the middleman (SPTPG).

I just filed a complaint with the FDIC! I have an easy return and they won't answer calls or Emails! They received my money over 2 months ago(verified by IRS) and no money as of today!

This is so sick ! My funds were sent to my bank on 5/16/2022 my bank rejected it because of the wrong routing number ! TPG told me I had to confirm my identity through them which I did and I got approved for a cashiers check at the end of July , now it is August 30th 2 days away from September still no check has been printed & they are saying that a estimated time frame can’t even be provided , every time I call they tell me call back in 48 hours and when I do it’s the same Sh!T
