Found this forum today. I figure I should tell my story as well. I filed on February 4 (1 day after I received my W2) I decided to try TurboTax for the first time. Everything seemed to go smoothly. My tax file got accepted. But then I received a letter saying I needed to submit information of 1095A (health insurance). But... I am paying TurboTax so that they can let me know what I need to submit (so much for paying an online tool that doesn't do its job properly, they even made me upgrade because there were things that were not covered by the basic version of it).  Anyways, I submitted my 1095A information somewhere about March 2.  Everything went to hell after that. The papers I submitted are probably under a pile of papers somewhere in a shipping container or storage unit waiting for then to miraculously pick it up. I don't know how much is the interest the IRS pays back to those that filed before things spiced up in the US. But I am surely owed interest.

Now. Who do I blame? For starters, TurboTax. One would think that after being forcefully upgraded from the free version to deluxe, one would get maybe more amenities. But in the end... they didn't even warn me that i was missing something in the files. Yet, they said my tax return was successfully accepted. I already paid TurboTax for the service upgrade, so why would they care anymore? So, TurboTax 👏 Way to go.

I also blame the IRS for not upgrading their services. Apparently, the IRS was having issues even before the pandemic started. Their systems are, at best, obsolete.

Just like most of us here. I was already doing calculations to know where to allocate that money after it was deposited. For most of us... it was probably going to bill payments. Well... I had to use my savings account to pay the bills and close it after that since they were charging me money because I was below the limit they require to waive maintenance fees (banks are stupid, what exactly are you maintaining on a private savings account? it also happens with debit cards...). Now, here I am, almost 6 months till I filed and it is still "processing".  They all deserve a trophy for this 👏🍻🏆🙄

Every month we get told to wait longer and longer and then one time someone told us we should recieve a check 4 to 6 weeks after it said it was processed. What should we do? Has anyone else been through this.

because of Covid the IRS is behind in processing returns especially these mailed in, those where taxpayers filed a non-filer return to get the stimulus (but that return filing meant no other return for the year but IRS records show there's a tax return due) and maybe even e-filed returns.  the IRS has your return and is processing the return (checking it) or it's in the queue for checking.  eventually the IRS will get to it and if there are no issues with it, send out your refund.  if there are issues the IRS will send out a notice asking for additional info.  if you move make sure you update your mailing address with the USPS and also with the IRS by filing form 8822

@123sal  If what was filed?  Your 2019 or 2020 tax return?  Only you can file your tax return.

Did you go all the way through the File tab, through the 3 steps and hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button?

You might be able to check your efile status here

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

When you efile you get back 2 emails.  The first email only confirms the transmission.  The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.

When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc.  What does it say?

@nayaxo It just means that the IRS has not yet approved your refund; once they do, then you will receive an estimated refund date and will be able to track your refund here.

The IRS says 9 out of 10 filers who efile and choose direct deposit will get their Federal refunds within 21 days after being accepted. Some returns are processed fairly quickly, while others require additional processing due to specific items in the return. Some are pulled at random for more thorough investigation.

If you efiled, you should double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted.
If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into your Online Account and check the efile status at the Tax Home.

If that showed it was accepted, you can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of your Federal refund.
https://www.irs.gov/Refunds

TIPS:

  • Be sure you have waited at least 24 hours after acceptance before using the IRS WMR tool.
  • Be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status.
  • Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount.   Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a screen.
  • Also be sure you are using the Federal amount before any TurboTax fees are taken out (if you chose that option.)
  • Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.
  • You can also try phoning the IRS refund hotline.  I've seen it work for some users when the WMR tool didn't.  800-829-1954

I don’t understand why people who claim EITC on their tax returns every year and claims the same person has to wait for their returns. The IRS holds people returns like it’s their money. There are people like me who really need theirs and they are BS..ing around. This has to STOP

How did you actually get ahold of someone?! I've tried a dozen times!

Level 4

You have to just keep calling the IRS because that is what I did and eventually you will be able to talk to a real person. And when you do get through you will have to wait on hold between 15 and 30 minutes. Keep trying you will get to talk to someone. Good Luck

I'm still not understanding this I submit it to W-2s and one child there should be no reason for them to hold my tax information

I have been waiting and waiting and the irs.gov site sais my tax return is still being processed. Its starting to become very frustrating because i file with turbo tax every year and i know its correct.

It does not mean there is something wrong with your return. Sometimes it takes the IRS longer time to work on the returns. Unfortunately, there is no way on our side to speed up the process.

If you're here looking for answers about the 2020 tax season (filed this year), it might help you to know my current, puzzling situation. I filed with TurboTax on February 5th, received the message that my federal return was accepted on February 11th with an estimated date of the refund being March 4th. The IRS Where's My Refund tool showed that my refund was accepted and was showing the orange bars up until about March 3rd or so when the bars went away and I got the "We are STILL processing your refund, a date will be posted when one is available". My transcripts showed that no refund had been received. I started attempting to call the IRS on Friday, March 5th but couldn't get through. Finally today on Tuesday, March 9th, I was able to get through the phone lines after a 2-hour wait. After a short 5 minute wait (in comparison) the IRS worker told me that they had just received my federal return on March 5th. I was floored. She explained that I would have to wait 21 days from March 5th. Furious, I got off the phone and called TurboTax. After fighting with their automated system for a bit, I got through to someone who explained that because TurboTax showed it had been accepted on the 11th of February, it couldn't be an error on their part. She said that they don't get those messages unless the IRS itself accepts or rejects the return. So, here I am, waiting 40 days instead of 21 because somewhere between TurboTax and the IRS, my return sat unnoticed for almost a month. Anyways, if you've heard nothing and more than 21 days have passed, just a note that it could absolutely not be because of an error on your return or anything else that you did wrong...

I am in the same boat...Turbo tax stated that the IRS would not even accept the taxes until Feb 12th.  Mine states accepted the 12th and still no refund...it has been over 21 days and the IRS line states to busy to answer call later.  Seems to me that there might be a miscommunication on Turbo tax side if this is happening to so many people.  My daughter did her own taxes and was refunded in 2 weeks.

Do you call the local irs office? The 800 number does not work, I tried to make a account on the  irs site to check  my stuff, like everyone suggests, bit it says account cannot be found.

I got a letter from the irs Saturday about my state taxes, but no deposit date, so I know my address is in the system.

It's frustrating,  always a dean end road .

@Felischap

Youll need to create your tax account. Do you file taxes, previously?
