What does "state extra" mean?

I want to prepae, print and mail my state return.  Can I do this even if I have NOT purchased the extra state feature?

Are you using the Desktop CD/Download program?  In Deluxe and above you get 1 free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns.  Then each state return is $20 to efile or you can print and mail state for free.

In the Online web versions the state is a separate charge from federal.  And the Online fees are to prepare the returns whether you efile or print and  mail them.

What tax year?

If using the TurboTax online editions, those are only for tax year 2022 and the state tax program is an additional charge of $39 if not using the Free online edition.

There are still eight various software providers who will participate in the Free File program but they will not be available until sometime in January----so if you want to use one of them---WAIT.
