I have this same issue. I am also using the desktop version.
I am also unable to print my returns or save them as a PDF. I click on Print Returns, the program tries but produces nothing.
Desktop Turbotax Premier 2024
Macintosh
All Systems up-to-date.
Here's a workaround I found. In TurboTax under the File menu, select Preview. A small window will open showing your return, but the only option is to Close. However, if you hover your mouse over the return, there is an open in Adobe Reader icon just to the right of the magnifying glasses. Click that and Reader opens. From there you can print.
I have been given a work around by another member, but it still doesn't fix the programs issues.
Make sure all your forms are available for print. TurboTax does not to permit printing or saving as a PDF until all forms are available & loaded onto their program.
Use this link to reference when your tax forms will be available. You can search by TurboTax Product and for IRS and State-Specific Forms.
As a possible work around, see this post in community from last year: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/state-taxes/discussion/successfully-printed-south-carolina-2023-in...
That solution of going to the preview and printing, didn't work for me. Maybe because some forms are still not available for printing? I hovered over the preview return but never saw a magnifying glass or Adobe Reader icon appear.
same thing happened to me
I discovered that I was able to see the buttons after I enlarged the size of the box. However, the box still shows that I can't print or save my state tax forms. How is the program stating that certain forms are not available yet to print (in my case, NY state) when I have already successfully filed my taxes and they have been accepted by both the IRS and by NYS?
In case this helps someone else, I have my 2024 tax return completed and tried to print it. However, the buttons or icons to print or save to pdf were not shown in the pop-up window. There was a box in the lower right corner of the pop-up window that my state return was not ready as some forms were still being revised, and logically, there were no state forms listed as an option to print. I tried to print just the federal (with or without various worksheets), but the buttons were still not displayed. I suspected they were being overlaid with the state warning message. I was able to switch to Forms view and print individual forms.
After much trial & error with TurboTax support we discovered that if the state return was removed, it would print the federal. If you have not made any updates to your state return, this seems safe, but you will need to restart the state, which will import data from the federal. If you have made changes already on the state return, they will obviously be lost. The other option would be to print individual froms from the Forms view....or just wait until the forms for you state return are finalized.
Same problem--TurboTax Deluxe Mac. When I try to print the bar goes back and forth a few times and then quits. I'm hoping for a fix in an update. I tried printing from previous years and I can do so. Must be glitch in this year's program.
In case this helps someone else, although I was unable to print (or save to pdf) my federal or state tax returns, when I deleted my state return (as mentioned in a previous post), I could print my federal return, and today I was able to submit (file). I was still unable to print my state return. However, after I looked at the list of forms available for my state on the TurboTax website, I noticed that estimated tax payment vouchers for the state were "not supported for eFile". I updated my state return and said "no" to the estimated payment vouchers for the state, I was then able to print and file my state return. In case you need the link, here it is:
Note that they indicate that it may take a few days for TurboTax to incorporate any late documents into the software. Hope this helps a very frustrating subtle and frustrating situation.
