I have the exact same problem with TurboTax Home & Business for Mac. Over the years it has always been hit or miss, but after a couple of tries, it would save to pdf. Now, it is just print, calculating, force quit or print, ding, force quit.
Luckily, I do not need to produce a copy of my return as proof of anything. However, it does not change the fact that I want a saved copy of all the returns filed.
I'm having the same issue. I can't save the Turbo Tax file to a pdf. I'm constantly getting the spinning ball, and when I open force quit box, it states "Turbo Tax is not responding," and I force quit the software. This happened AFTER I did an update yesterday. I dont know what to do.
IT WORKED! Thank you for your workaround.. Turbo tax better get this fixed. That was exhausting! I thought I was going crazy, then I found this thread w/ the same issues as mine. Thank you, again!
Hi,
For me, the problem was very straightforward. Instead of trying to print or save to pdf all 3 returns, I tried one at a time and I have now found the problem.
The New York return WILL NOT print or save to pdf. It WILL open in preview.
Once you open the return in preview, which is a tiny window:
1. Click the 3rd icon from the left. This opens a bigger window.
2. The pdf is locked, so you cannot save it, but you can duplicate it or export it. Both remove the locked status.
Now you have save returns and you can print.
Brilliant, mcotrona! There will be plenty of people here who will be thrilled with your solution! I don't have state income taxes. So while I had my own trouble with printing, I did not personally run into the problem you're describing. But I've read many posts in the last 3-4 weeks of people who have had your same trouble, with the state income tax in particular, and with the watermark imprinted on their saved files. This explains it! Great work!

I just tried saving to PDF from TT Deluxe desktop version and it saved both Federal and State returns without a problem. FWIW, this is what we do every year: save to PDF to create a file for our archives, and then print the pages we need from that PDF. We have never tried printing directly from TT to a printer.
Welcome to the TT club where customer service went to die. Been having the same problem with being unable to print & save state forms. Just got a refund from Costco (where I purchased TT) -- so there is that. Another oddity is that when I go thru File then Print Preview I can see all my state forms -- just can't print or save. Unfortunately, TT seems to be burying its head on this issue.
I've been having the same issue. Print Forms does not work. After trying everything else, I just tried the workaround by saving as a pdf and printing the pdf. Worked like a charm. Thanks!
See if this workaround works for you.
As a possible work around, see this post in community from last year: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/state-taxes/discussion/successfully-printed-south-carolina-2023-in...
After Tax Returns have been submitted to Fed & SC State
To save and/or print both Federal & SC state return after filing:
The Fed forms do OK,print, save to PDF.
The state box says still waiting on state, SC, forms, so can't preview, can't save PDF, can't Print.
In searching web site, it says all SC forms are OK now. I did update on screen, it processed, and
still won't print state.
I need help. I can't get a person at Intuit turbotax to talk to.
I have used TT for many years, never had any problems at all.
Thanks.
Thanks!
I have the same issue as of 2/20/2025..If intuit is not going to fix issue it's time for another vendor. It seems like it should be an easy fix it they want to serve their customers..
I have the same issue -- NOT Working .. has there been any traction .. on this issue?
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this!
Following these steps actually worked for me.
It has to be a bug on their end maybe related to which form you used. I do my families tax returns and I already did my daughters, e-filed and saved as pdf. I just did my mothers tax return. Only income is social security with a fuel credit on the state return. It's as basic a return as you can have and I can't save it as a pdf. When I try it says "completing calculation" and only allows me to save the turbo tax file. I was able to e-file and transmit the return but could not save as pdf. Hopefully they get this resolved.
