Using TT for a number of years now and this year our e-file was rejected. Seems there was excess SS Tax withheld, and claimed on the taxes. There are clearly two W-2 Forms, one from each employer, both for myself. Verified all info is correct of W-2 Input. How do i get past this?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
What is the exact reject message that you got - the entire message, word for word, including the code?
What are the exact amounts in boxes 3, 4, and 7 on each of your W-2 forms? Go back to where you entered the W-2s in TurboTax and make sure you entered the amounts accurately. Make sure you didn't accidentally insert an extra digit or omit a decimal point. Did you enter the exact amounts, including cents, or did you round them?
Do the two W-2 forms have different employer EINs?
What is the exact amount on Schedule 3 line 11 in your tax return?
S3-G1040-144 If Schedule 3 (Form 1040) 'ExcessSocSecAndTier1RRTATaxAmt' has a non-zero value, thjen at least two Form W-2's must be present in the return.
I have double-checked the W-2 entries a few times, even had my wife check them (EIN's, SSN, amounts, etc.).
All are correct.
W-2 #1 Box 4: 9260
W-2 #2 Box 4: 1852.53
(Combined = 11,112.53 - 10453.20 (Max SS Tax) = 659.33 (Overpayment).
Schedule 3 Line 11: 659.
After double-checking, i resubmitted our taxes, and they were rejected a second time - same reason.
You didn’t answer an important question…..are the EIN numbers different on the W2s?
A sure way to fix this is to delete the W2s and re-enter them Manually especially if you imported them. That may clear something out.
Oh what amount is in box 3? Maybe one of them has the wrong amount in box 4 based on box 3. Try leaving the cents off of box 4. Or check W2 box 12. You may have entered Code A by mistake.
Each W-2 has its own separate/different EIN/Employer.
I deleted both W-2's and re-entered them both.
IF ONLY I COULD GET A TurboTax Person ON-LINE OR ON PHONE, WHO ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT THE SOFTWARE IS DOING!!
THIS IS REDICULOUS!!
Do both W-2s have an amount in Box 1 or is either of them for Medicare Waiver Payments? You can try using $1 instead of zero if that is the case. If not, we can take a further look if you provided us with a diagnostic copy of your return. All personal information will be removed - we will get a numbers only copy to analyze. Reply with the token number (use a screenshot if the AI tries to remove it) and include the name of any state returns you have attached to your tax file.
