Tax return

I was told by irs that my withholding numbers didn't match up... However, my state return was deposited in my account. Federal return has not. What should I do?

Was your return rejected in TurboTax?  Being rejected means that some things on your return don't match what the IRS has in their database. Here's how you can fix it.

Check for an email from turbotax@intuit.com. (Check your spam) It will give you a brief explanation of your reject and how to update it.  If you didn't get an email, open your return to get the rejection reason.

Sign in to your account and select the Fix my return button. Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.

If what you originally entered is correct, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, a dependent that's already been claimed, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed.If this is the case, file a paper return.

To Re-File your return and if you were guided through fixing your reject, select the option to refile when you’ve finished.

If you had to navigate to the area in the program yourself, when you’ve finished, select File in the left-hand menu (mobile devices: go to the upper-left corner to open the side menu, then select File). Follow the onscreen instructions to either e-file your return or file by mail.

If this affects your state return, you will have to file an amended return for your state return also.

Tax return

TurboTax says it's still being processed, but the IRS says it's a error on the federal withholding numbers... No message from TurboTax. Can I amend online or do I wait on the letter which takes two weeks from the IRS?

You will not be able to amend your tax return until it has been accepted by the IRS.  Please see the below FAQ for more information on amending a 2019 tax return:

Tax return

It's been accepted by the IRS. At least that's what TurboTax is saying. However, TurboTax didn't say anything about the error with the withholding numbers. When I called the IRS, they told me what the holdup was. They said they were sending a letter or form to change the error... Can I change it through TurboTax to speed up the process?

If you know you are receiving a letter from the IRS, don't do anything until you receive the letter. The IRS letter should contain explicit instructions on what you are to do.

Note that TurboTax would have no way to know that the withholding numbers on your W-2 were wrong.

If indeed the IRS suggests amending your return, you can do this through TurboTax by following the instructions above from katrinaLO.
