Tax return question

I had to mail my 2019 tax return to the IRS for processing and now there is a super long hold up. This was my first year of filing so my stimulus check is held up as well. Should I E-file my 2019 because of the paper backlog or will that screw things up?

Tax return question

No, do not e-file your return since you already mailed one in.  From the IRS:

The IRS is not currently able to process mailed in tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your Economic Impact Payment. Paper returns will be processed   once processing centers are able to reopen.

Tax return question

No, do not e-file the tax return.  That will definitely delay even further any tax refund you are eligible to receive and the stimulus payment.

The IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your Economic Impact Payment. Paper returns will be processed   once processing centers are able to reopen.
