Hi,
I apologize if this is a duplicate. I posted a question earlier but I cannot find it nor have I gotten an email.
My question is as follow:
I just e-filed my 2020 return, after that I found out that I missed to import a tax document from my brokerage which includes 1099-DIV, 1099-B and Form 8949.
In my original return, I am getting a refund while in my amended return, I would need to make a payment.
When I looked at the PDF copy of the amended return, It looks like they payment I owe will be deducted from my refund, which is fine.
How does that exactly work?
Will this amended return supersede the first return I filed which means I will received a refund less of what I owe or will they send me the or will they send me the original amount and I'll just have to make a payment?
Also, can i e-file my California amended return using Turbotax?
I apologize, this is the first time I am doing this.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Typically, the IRS will process your original return as filed and will issue you a refund. You will then send a payment when you send in your amended tax return for the balance due. You will mail in exactly what is listed as being due on your amended return.
Steps for amending a tax return
You cannot electronically file your amended state return. It will need to be mailed in.
Can you electronically file your state amended return
I e-filed my CA return it was accepted & I subsequently discovered an error in my state tax withholding.
I over stated my withholdings & although I am entitled to a refund it should be for less $.
Should I file an amended return or just wait for state to pick up on my error & send me a reduced $ refund ?
