My federal return was accepted and I designated my taxes to be paid on April 3 and money to be taken from my bank. But April 3 came and went and nothing happened. It is now April 8 and no payment has been made.  Is this a problem with the IRS? What do I do?

If your payment date has passed, but your tax payment has not been withdrawn yet, payment will not usually be not initiated until the return has been processed.  Most states don't begin processing state returns until after the federal return has completed processing (your payment is still considered timely, as long as submitted before July 15).

You can also call IRS e-file Payment Services anytime at 1-888-353-4537 to verify your payment.

Contact your state Department of Revenue:  https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302452

OR

To check the IRS or state payment date selected in TurboTax:

1.     Sign In to TurboTax

2.     Select "Taxes"

3.     Click "My Tax Timeline"

4.     Choose "Some things You can Do"

5.     Select "Download all forms and worksheets"

6.     Review Part V of the Federal Information Worksheet for payment and banking information.

7.     Review State Information Worksheet for payment and banking information.

** If the election checkboxes are marked "NO" and OR your banking information is not displayed on the Information Worksheet, then the direct debit was not successful. To setup payments for federal and state taxes, use the links in this answer and choose from the payment options available. If you did not set up your payment through TurboTax, visit www.irs.gov/Payments and choose from the payment options.

I checked my federal worksheet and everything was entered correctly. I received my state refund but federal did not take out my taxes due. I am not clear what "processing" my return means since it was accepted and everything is done electronically. Are you saying there is another step that the government has to take with my return before the withdrawal is initiated, and they have not done that yet? Has anyone else reported this issue? thanks.

Turbo Tax will not have a status on your refund. If the IRS website says processing, this means they are working on it.

This last reply was not responsive to anything. I am not expecting a refund from the federal but am waiting for them to take out my taxes I owe. I did not say the federal web site says they are processing my return. The previous specialist said the withdrawal will not occur until my return has been processed. It sounds like turbo tax takes no responsibility for this process even though I used turbotax to submit my returns.

When you submit your return to the IRS, it will switch from pending to accepted. Accepted means the IRS is processing your return. Once your return has finished processing it will move to approved.

The tax return has to fully process before they will process your tax payment. So the return would need to move to approved.
