My 2015 tax file will not open I need to amend it

So you already have the *.tax2015 data file?  

Was the 2015 return prepared in Online TurboTax?  If so, did you download the *.tax2015 data file and are now using the 2015  special "amend software?"   Or did you prepare it originally in 2015 desktop software and are using that software?

What happens when you try to open the *.tax2015 data file with the 2015 software?   Any error message?

If your 2015 tax data file has a state return in it, you'll need to download the state software into your desktop software before you open the data file, or it will display an error.

Are you using a Windows PC or a Mac?    What operating system version?

I did in in Turbo Tax online.  I have the file saved on my desktop, but I tried to open it in my TurboTax previous years - 2015.  The first page opens, and shows Amend on the heading, but it says TurboTax error, and a follow not that Turbo Tax will not be able to open it in the future

The first page is frozen, as it has done before on a couple occasions

I don't yet understand what "first page is frozen means."   You may need to describe in more detail exactly what you are referring to as "first page". 

Are you using a Mac or PC?  If you're using a Mac, I'll ask someone using a Mac to assist you.  If  you are using a Mac there are some known issues with 2015 software.  If using a Mac, what is your OS X version?

What type of tax file did you download from online TurboTax?   You need the *.tax2015 data file.  Are you trying to open the *.tax2015 with the desktop software?      Is the software you are using the special 2015 "amend software" that you downloaded for free?

You said you have "the file" saved on your desktop.  How are you trying to open it?  You should launch the 2015 TurboTax program first, then use the program to open the *.tax2015 file.  Do not double-click the file to launch the program.

It says Turbo Tax error?  Does it give an error number like 190?

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW TAX RETURN)

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.
