Is anyone else still waiting on their tax refund and electronically filed an Injured Spouse Form in February 2020? I filled mine Feb. 5th and I’m still waiting. Next week will be 11 weeks.

It is not July 24th. My husband and I filed jointly, electronically, on March 31st with an injured spouse form. Our “where’s my refund” still says processing. Every single time I call the IRS, I wait on hold for at least 30 minutes to over an hour and every single time they hung up. Very frustrating.

here's an update, I originally filed my taxes feb 12th, I received a letter saying that they needed to verify my income and that would take 60-90 days. now going on 5 months later I get another letter in the mail saying that they need to do the same thing for another 90 days. I am beyond frustrated with this whole situation. Every post I have says that they can take up to 21 days to process my return but 5 months?! another 90 days will put me at the end of Oct, so I am at a complete loss and horribly disappointed in the IRS for how this process has taken place.

Great question on the interest! I am still waiting so we’re talking 6 months!!! Still just says processing. It’s ridiculous. Are you still waiting as well?

That’s awful 😟. I am still waiting, no letter, nothing. I called in early June and they said it should be mid July, early August and so can call back then. Nothing happened. I haven’t called because I don’t think it’s going to accomplish much if it’s simply still processing. Frustrating as hell but also encouraging to see it’s not just me this is happening to and it seems to be the norm.

YES! I mailed mine back in May. I just received a letter from the IRS stating that they couldn't find my Injured Spouse form. So, I had to resend my tax return with the injured spouse form again. This was last week sometime. I also didn't receive my stimulus check.  Child Support took my half too. So, I am also waiting on that as well. I read that the IRS was mailing out those checks but it's December and I still haven't received it yet.

@Squigle Any tax return that requires special handling is delayed----and only the IRS is in control.  Millions of people are still waiting for their 2020 refunds.

From this IRS website - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

As of June 23, 2021, we had 17.5 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include tax year 2020 returns such as those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We have processed all error free returns received prior to 2021, and continue to work the returns that need to be manually reviewed due to errors.  We are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened and processed in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

@jeffdpia You are posting to a thread that is about filing "injured spouse."   It always takes much longer for the IRS to process an injured spouse return.   Given the severe backlog now, it is not surprising that your return is taking longer than usual.   Any returns that require a human to look at them are taking a much longer time.

I filed my taxes, electronically in March 2022. I also filed an injured spouse form. Child support took my refund anyway. How do I refile my 8379?

I filled my 2021 taxes via TurboTax on January 31 and my return was accepted by the IRS on January 31 as well claiming an injured spouse as well. I have called the IRS ever week since April 25 I keep getting the same answer "please call back next week to see if there is an update." Is their anything they can tell is that we don't know already. I was counting on my return to come on time to keep my business open, but I had to close my Business. Alot of are depending on our refunds to get us back up on our feet after the pandemic. If we owed the IRS they would have been all up our butt's. WHERE IS OUR REFUND???
