This is the first year my son filed a return & he was 15, so it had to be mailed in. We received a letter stating "Schedule 1 is incomplete or missing from your return. Complete the schedule with information that supports $$$$ on line 12, 1040. Also attach all supporting forms or schedules, as required". All he had was a W-2 and some bank interest. The program did not provide a schedule 1. How can I fix this? Line 12 is showing his W-2 amount plus the standard $350 added to it. It did not calculate in his bank interest. Could that be causing the issue and does he need to file a schedule 1? I called the IRS and they said yes, he needs a schedule 1. Please help this poor 15 year old!

Do you see the amount of his W-2 on Line 1of his 1040? Do you see any interest income on Line 2b? Is it possible that the IRS is requesting a Schedule 1 because there is no other income on the tax return?
LOOK at the form 1040 lines 8 & 10a ... is there any dollar amounts on either line ? If there is then a Sch 1 should have been produced.
If not then put his name and SS# on the Sch 1 form and mail it in. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040s1.pdf
Wait a minute ... line 12 of the 1040 ??? That is the standard deduction calculation ... some nit wit data input operator missed the I CAN BE CLAIMED AS A DEPENDENT box so the return is not "adding up" in the computer so save a PDF of the entire return with the worksheets and send them a copy of that page.
When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2020 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.
Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
Yes, his income is on line 1 and interest on line 2b. Not sure why that would require a schedule 1??
Like I posted before ... if they require a Sch 1 when none is required then SEND them a blank form with his name & SS# on it along with a letter questioning their notice or call the number on the notice and ask them why ... I still think the data input operator put something in wrong.
