I don't know what you promised JH.  Turbotax is not a part of that deal.  If you promised to use them anyway that's something you will have to deal with.  Turbotax doesn't care if you started somewhere else.

TT does not offer refund advances or loans.

I understand. I'm seeking direction also. They have hidden fees. I used my last pay stub and I want to complete my taxes with turbo tax instead when I receive my w2. I felt cheated by them. Im praying we can since its not finalized. I applied for an advance also nothing yet so I'm thinking we can again since its required to have your w2 form

Me too. I was denied  too. I also feel cheated because once I looked over my paper work it was more than she told me. I'm thinking since the IRS isn't open until the 29th , I may can file somewhere else. I hope so!!

I know they told me that I would need to bring my w2's back when I received them so they could file. So technically all they did was apply for a loan for me and it wasnt approved.....I should be able to go anywhere because I dont owe them anything. If I had been approved for the loan it would be different.

Your issue is with JH or the other tax provider.

To e-file a tax return, you have to authorize the provider to transmit the return, usually by providing an electronic signature.  If you signed any agreements with them in writing (paper and ink) those have to be considered as well.  Did you authorize them in any way to submit your final tax return?

If so, then you need to find a way to stop them.  But if they have already transmitted the return to their server for holding until the IRS is ready, you may be unable to call it back.

If you did not authorize filing, then you should be ok.

If you don't understand your agreement with them you may need to contact a local consumer advocate or the consumer advocacy department of your state attorney general.

I just called them about mine since I was also denied. When I did my taxes on TurboTax I was getting alot more back so I don't want to file with them. They stated that without the W-2 they cannot file the taxes and I would have no problem using a different service.

Applying for the current generation of refund loans with HRB, JH, etc. is *NOT* filing your tax return, unlike the RALs of old; the IRS has made it clear you CANNOT legally file from a paystub. If you didn't qualify for a loan and didn't file there with a W-2 or 1099, you are under no obligation to file there and you're free to file with TurboTax.

Other answers say JH doesn't require you to file with them even if you DO get a loan, though you'll have to repay MetaBank for the loan. (It's officially interest-free, but JH pays MetaBank to offer them; that's one reason why their fees are so high now.) That may not be true of other tax preparers; check the terms of your loan contract or call them.

It's not required to have you're W2. Just with the last pay stub  If not calculated correctly you're YTD will be incorrect. When getting an advance on your tax refund you are agreeing to file with that company. Tax offices are not payday loan office's. If done correctly you're refund should be the same no matter where you go the only thing that should differ are the amount of the fees.

I don't believe that you are required to file with anybody and stated above you do not have an obligation to file with any particular tax preparer unless the loan was given

It's YOUR TAXES & YOUR REFUND. No you don't have to go through JH. If you were denied the refund advance loan with JH, you can go anywhere else you like to prepare your taxes. I know this because I too went through the same thing. I was denied & I went to TurboTax. Because unfortunately JH has STEEP filling prices. The only reason I used them was for extra $$ for the holidays which is great they offer the early refund BUT it's honestly sad cuz they are taking advantage of people in need of there $$. So seems unfair. I believe in 2021 I paid JH about $700 To prepare my taxes!! It's crazy steep.
