I received a letter from IRS saying there was a miscalculation of my recovery rebate credit and owe them $400. It also says that they made changes to my return. Letter states Tax you owed 2568.00 /payments you made 2168.00 no explanation of details. How do I determine what happened?
Let me know
The IRS will provide a detailed letter of explanation as a follow up. In the meantime you could try to obtain your IRS Transcript, then match it to the tax return you filed. This should show the differences.
Also, use the the Get My Payment link to show you what they have on file for you - Select the button Get My Payment to see your information.

I received a letter from IRS stating that a miscalculation because of a "Recovery Rebate Credit" was made and now I owe $762.00 instead of getting a refund of $438.00. Why?
You must have had 1200 on line 30. Did you already get the first 2 Stimulus payments? That's been a common problem. You might have answered the Stimulus questions wrong and tried to claim it again or some more on line 30. So the IRS took it off because you already got it. They know they sent it to you.
I received a letter that there was as miscalculation on my 2020 form and I owe $4,324.00. I don't see that the estimated taxes we paid in 2020 are included on the form. what should I do?
If you received a notice, no action required on your part. IRS is making all of the necessary changes. That was just a notification to alert you.
