It depends. There are 2 Premium products, and it depends on how you are using the word "Premium." Most commonly Premium is a software edition which is used for forms that the Deluxe Edition cannot handle; i.e., it is an upgrade from Deluxe. There is another add-on called "Premium Services Bundle" for California filers who chose to pay their fees out of their Federal refund, and that add-on bundle does include Audit Defense. Other add-ons with Audit Defense include PLUS and MAX.

If you used Online TurboTax, then to determine if you purchased Audit Defense, sign in to your online TurboTax account, and at the Tax Home scroll way down to the section Your tax returns & documents, and select the tax year in question. Then select View order details. If you have PLUS, Max Benefits, or Premium Services listed, then you purchased Audit Defense.

If you did not purchase any of those, TurboTax also has a free Audit Support Center that will also help with state returns.
