What kind of mistake? Did you file your tax return already?
I filed my taxes already, and the mistake that I think was the amount that was withheld by the employer so that the IRS can determine if I owe taxes or get a refund.
So you think the withholding in box 2 is wrong? Do you have any paystubs to check against?
It sounds like the employer may have withheld too little tax from your W2 resulting in you having a balance due on your account. If this is the case, there is little you can do at this point for tax year 2023.
If this is the case, I suggest to have your employer withhold more tax this coming year. You may request this by submitting a W4 form to your employer. Here is a copy of a W4 you can download and complete to give to your employer. Read the instructions carefully on how to complete this to submit to your employer.
If this isn't the issue, please let us know by clarifying what your specific issue is.
So looks like my refund in 2023 was less than in 2022. Did my employer withhold less this time around as compared to 2022? I a 4-digit refund in 2022, and now I received a 2-digit refund. I am just getting clarification as to what happened between the years since I do not remember changing anything in my tax information with my employer.
Without looking at your return it is impossible to know why your refund is less this year.
Your employer withhold taxes based on the information reported by you on the W-4 form.
There are many reasons that your refund could be less than what you expected, such as:
I recommend that you make a line by line comparison with last year's return to see what is different this year.
