How should I use Turbotax to amend a 2016 federal return that was not done in Turbotax, and then file the very late state return?

My solution was to do only the revised fed in Turbotax, do the amendment form myself, then complete state in T-tax, mail all, then keep going with T-tax.  Workable?

To amend a return you did somewhere else, you would first have to fill out Turbo Tax like you are doing the original return and pay for it.  You have to recreate the actual wrong original return.  Then when it matches each line that you really filed you have to tell Turbo Tax you will mail it so it thinks it was filed.  Then you can amend it.

For prior years you have to buy the Desktop program.  You can only buy the download for prior years.  You have to buy a separate program for each year.  They only sell the last 3 years.  You need a full Windows or Mac computer to install it on.  Buy the download here

You can recreate the original return using the Forms Mode.  Then say to mail it.  How to amend a Desktop return,

Thanks much, Forms mode really helped, didn't notice that.  Found little errors, tweaked some input figures that won't get filed, then it almost  matched the one I already filed.  Four dollars different at the end and I can't figure out how to change it since one figure is based on a complicated 1095-A formula.  Is there a way to override totals or change T-tax's rounding method to match my method?  Think a perfect match going forward would be better.  (Former Volvo girl, really liking those Swedes.)

OR, since I already paid the tax due when I filed, can I change the amount on the 1040-V in T-tax to reflect the amount I actually paid (all of $4 over what T-tax figured)?  OR explain any discrepancies in text with amended return?  Seems like whatever I do there may be implications down the road, just want to eventually get everything as clean as possible, advice appreciated.
