@tbbenard just because it was "issued" on the 11th, doesn't mean it was mailed on the 11th. Watch for a plain evelope in the mail over the next week or so.
@tbbenard Your check was issued on the 11th---and today is only the 13th. It can take longer than that for the envelope to arrive via the U.S. mail system. It will come via first class mail without tracking so just keep watching the mailbox. Open all mail--do not assume anything is junk mail without opening it.
How long after amend tax day complete would it take to receive
@Shaneasm25 It takes the IRS four to six months to process an amended return and send the refund--sometimes longer.
You can watch for information here:
https://www.irs.gov/Filing/Individuals/Amended-Returns-(Form-1040-X)/Wheres-My-Amended-Return-1
Even if it’s say complete when track
That’s not true my amended return was filed and excepted just like original file
Wow that’s a while !! It only took mine 4 weeks to show up on the where ls my amended return. I would definitely Call and see if they even recieved it .
LOL. Mine was received 12/20/23 and it hasn’t gotten processed yet. It’s longer than six months.
@dbovill If you mailed an amended return in December of 2023 and it has not been processed by the IRS then you should be calling them to find out the status.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
I already did. I was told they are massive, massive delays and to call back in 30 days.
According to IRA status page, IRS is now processing 1040-X received in March 2024.
If yours was sent earlier and is not finalized, their excuse is that it requires "error correction or other special handling".
That is definitely a lie. Mine hasn't been touched and there is nothing on my transcript other than it was received. I also tried calling again today and it wouldn't even put me through to an agent due to super high call volume. Sigh......
At this point, I'd recommend contacting a taxpayer advocate to act as an intermediary between you and the IRS.
They will be able to assist you as they will have access to more information as it relates directly to your specific tax return and situation.
Appreciate the response but this is incorrect advice. Those with returns that haven't been processed are not eligible to receive help from a tax advocate. See below from TAS.
TAS is not currently assisting taxpayers with unprocessed tax year 2021 or earlier income
tax returns filed by paper not yet entered into the IRS system. We will continue to evaluate our
ability to accept these cases as the IRS resolves its backlog. TAS will generally wait 60 days after
the IRS shows receipt of the paper return before accepting a case to allow the IRS an opportunity
to process the return through its normal processes.
