Go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Check the IRS for a transcript of the last return you filed.

The IRS website create account verify your Identity with ID me and you can see every single tax return you ever filed. Your retirement account everything. You can see almost all information except like employers . Just basic info like AGI and taxes withheld . How much you got back dates anything was sent. You can request a print out of it as well  theyl mail it to you. It's good to have an account set up already in casd you ever need to check the status of a refund. Or past refunds .

How can I find out the last year I filed my taxes?

Yea I tried to file a tax return from 7 years ago and the company owner had died and left the diner business to go someone else they refused to find my W2 or get me a copy . The IRS has my income on their nut I had 2 kids at the time babies and I didn't have a chance and didn't know o solidified for all these credits even if I only made a little money. Anyways to make story short I would've had to pay for the past return and throw as much info as I could possibly get from irs file. It shows I worked and how much I made but doesn't show the employer ID number and stuff like that How much taxes they took out etc.. I think last year was my last year to be able to do it and I harassed them for an entire year and they kept telling me to call back I stopped there several times and they said they didn't have it. I feel like there's something I could do more that they should get in trouble for that but I have no clue.. Apparently I didn't make enough money to even file taxes technically but to me I would have gotten all them credits for the children and earning some credit so it would have been worth something. That's how I found out you can see all your tax returns and any income that came in your name. Also helps when you get your identity stolen and someone's working under your name. It will show up on there.

You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS---that is different from the usual "transcript"----a wage and income transcript will show the wages and income that were reported by the employer.  It will only show federal information--no state information, but it would give you something to help you file federal returns if you have been unable to get your W-2's.

Refunds from tax years earlier than 2020 have been forfeited.  But if you can file a 2020 return by April 15, 2024, you can still get a refund for that tax year.  And that is one of the years for which there was federal stimulus money for yourself and dependent children.  For tax year 2021, there was also federal stimulus money and an enhanced child tax credit if you had dependent children then.
