Sounds like you didn't owe the entire amount they garnished so they refunded you the $75 they took that you didn't owe.
The thing is that I made all the income. She is a stay at home mom and made no money. The student loan debt she had was when she was from 10 years ago and we just got married last year. Shouldn’t I have got the full offset back? Thanks for helping
Depends on how much her student loan was for. It's possible your refund (over)paid the entire amount owed with $75 leftover. Hence the reason you got some money back.
You can file an injured spouse form for up to 3 years after you filed your taxes and yes I did that and got the refund for the year they took my taxes and it was 3 yrs later an got my refund. I file an injured spouse form every year and I get my federal taxes but not my state taxes. Injured spouse forms only cover federal taxes
I'm in the same boat but I can't even get as far as talking to someone. What number did you call? It has been 6 weeks since I mailed mine after filing taxes and still can't get any information. I'm more worried about my stimulus check because I got a letter saying the whole 2400 went to my husband's back child support but the letter also said if you file an injured spouse form that you should get at least half of it back. I have no patience so this is very frustrating
Call local Taxpayer Advocate location leave message daily -
go to IRS website find form 911 fill out and FAX to your local Taxpayer advocates office
wait 5 days give or take after filing form #911 they will call you back with the information of your personal taxpayer advocate - then it’s about 5 days after that they will call you and you can explain your situation - they are working from home and wanting to help
people. I’m expecting to see my refund now that the IRS has it imputed by no later then June 4 -
Make sure you emphasize the hardship your going through or they will pass it up
Glad you heard back. I faxed in my 911 form 3 weeks ago, have left them 7 messages. Still nothing, have not heard from them. Super frustrated at this point.
What state are you in? I’m in Illinois and did not do the Chicago location I did Springfield as it’s smaller. If I was you’d I re-fax form 911 again - with everything getting shuffled around it could of got lost- they are suppose to call back within 5 days - make sure your very straightforward with urgency level or they can’t help- make it sound good
Michigan here. As far as I know, there is only a Detroit location. Thanks, will try again.
