How can I find out if my injured spouse claim was applied to my case. I mailed it in after my taxes were filed

His debt does not affect your stimulus check.

Go to irs get my payment, you will get the date your check will be mailed if you don’t have a direct payment on file. According to irs, it takes 8 weeks after a refund to get your 8379 form money back. We are in the same boat and it’s after 8 weeks now and nothing yet. Hope and pray to get it soon.

They will put another 846 on there for your amount to be deposited. If you have a 971 the next code should be 846 with a new amount after they split the refund.

How can I find out if my injured spouse claim was applied to my case. I mailed it in after my taxes were filed

Thank you for showing me how to check the status! I followed the steps and went to online tax transcripts. In my case, it shows the IRS received my injured spouse form.

If you want to know when you will get it, there will be code 846 (I have one before I submitted the injured spouse form) and now I need to wait for them to show another "846" that will show when I will receive my revised refund. I just checked last year's to be sure (this happened to me last year).

Based on what happened to me last year, below are the codes you may see:

  • 971 Injured spouse claim received  (date it was received will show up)
  • 766 Removed refund applied to non-IRS 04-15-2019 (will show date and amount you will likely receive as your new refund)
  • 290 (not sure what this means but it looks like some changes were made based on additional information I provided)
  • 846 Refund issued (this is the amount you will receive). If you submitted your injured spouse form after you filed taxes then you will see another 846 code with an earlier date, which is the amount garnished. It is this latest 846 that will show you what you will get back based on the injured spouse allocation. If you don't see this but it shows they received your form then you should keep checking.

Hope this helps! I still can't get anyone on the phone to check my status...
