This is the information the IRS has posted:
If you filed a return
"You don’t need to take any action. Please do not call us until 60 days after the notice date and only if you haven't received your refund or heard from us by then."
Because their phone lines are not open right now (IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continue) You will need to call once they reopen, unless your return is processed by then.
Please see the contact information below:
How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?
Note:
You will need to follow the prompts in order to speak to an IRS agent. There is a high call volume this time of year.
When calling the IRS do NOT choose Option 1.
Choose Option 2 after you choose the language.
Then Press 1
Then Press 3
Then Press 2, it will then transfer you to an agent.
I got this same letter in March, because of the whole COVID-19 shutdown I didn't get any information until recently and then I was told to wait until July 28th. just to get another letter saying another 60 days... this is complete Bull!!!
BS or not this is the current situation ... due to the Covid shut down which lasted more than 3 months the IRS is working hard at playing catch up ... patience will be needed.
You could try getting help from the Taxpayer Advocate office however don't expect them to move mountains ...
See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number - http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate
I understand that this is how things are because of the COVID-19, my issue is that I was told that it would be 60 days, after those 60 days I was told another 60 days from the date that I called. Then I get a letter saying 60 more days. so more than half the year was spent waiting. while everyone I know has received their returns. I received a stimulus check but still had NO indication as to the refund. Covid or not if I ran into a hardship and gave no update or insight as to when I could PAY my taxes then I would fall into legal trouble.
Again I understand that we are in uncharted times, my only issue and frustration is the lack or communication through this process.
well... here we are getting into Sept. and still no word from the IRS. like I stated before, I understand that because of Covid that everything has had to shut down. But this is a little alarming seeing how EVERYONE I have spoken to has already received a refund and stimulus check.
