HELP NEEDED

Hello!

Okay, so I made a huge mistake. I am so foolish for doing this, but I did not know I would screw up.

Okay, so a few days ago I wanted to update my bank info for my stimulus check, so it would go into the right bank account. So, I went on the IRS.GOV to look to see where I can update my bank info.

So, I saw an area where it says: “ Non-Filers: Enter Your Payment Info Here"

I knew this area did not apply to me,  because I have a job, and I ALWAYS file my W2’s every single year, but I just wanted to enter my payment info, so I filled out this E-File form.

This was the WRONG thing for me to do. But, I THOUGHT it would be fine, because I just wanted to update my bank account, then I knew I was going to file my taxes on April, 15th because I wanted my tax refund soon.

Now, yesterday I filed my taxes, but THEN my tax expert said that the IRS rejected it because someone with my SAME social security number has already filed. They thought someone stole my identity. But, I said it could be because I FILLED out a NON-FILERS E-file form. I looked more into it this Non-File form, and it says this is your 2019 tax return. They take that info, and turn it into a 1040 tax FORM.

So, nowwww I WONT be able to get my 2019 taxes done, and I have no way of deleting or withdrawing the NON—FILERS E FILE FORM since the IRS already accepted this.

Someone please help me ASAP. I do not want to pay a fine, or mess anything up. I need help.

I also already paid a tax expert, and now I do not want to lose that $$.

I also do not know how to file an amendment form. I know that is a way, but I did not file my taxes wrong, I just totally filed as a Non-filer, and that is not true.

Look on your main TurboTax page. Sounds like a real hassle, sorry to hear about all that. Annotation 2020-04-16 102234.png

HELP NEEDED

First understand this is just a minor mistake, not a huge one, and it is fixable and doesn't involve any fines.

I will be happy to help you understand the steps needed to take it from here.

What is currently on file for you is a Form 1040 with the income of 0, and a refund of 0.  You need this information to prepare your amended tax return, which is how you will fix this.

The amended tax return is the only way to resolve this, but you will have to mail in the amended return.

You will need to start with a blank tax return - full of zeros - and walk all the way to the end including the reviews.  This requires either deleting all of your information except the Personal Info or starting over in a new account.

Tell TurboTax you wish to file this return by mail and generate a copy of the blank return for your records.  This sets up the first step necessary to amend your return.

After this, you will need to log out and back in (if using online program), or close the program and open it back up.  Then select the option "I need to amend a return that has been filed and accepted."

Once the program indicates that it is amending the return, enter your actual tax data. This will create the tax return in the proper format on Form 1040X for you to print and mail.

Keep in mind that you have until July 15, 2020 to timely file this return if you owe tax - and 3 years to file it if you are expecting a refund.

HELP NEEDED

SUSANY1.

I am looking at my transcipt on the IRS site,

and it says I filed a 1040 as a single, and an adjusted gross income of $1.00. I AM NOT sure why it says that.

The reason it says you had $1 in income is that you cannot e-file a tax return if it has a $0 for income. It probably went in for $1 of deposit interest, but you should check the return.

Basically the same instructions that SusanY1 gave you except you had $1 in interest in the original return. Put in the $1 in interest and that you are a Single filer and then change over to an amended return. You will have to mail in the amended return.

HELP NEEDED

I just refiled my 2021 federal and state return with Nicholas from Florida. I made another error and need to correct it.

HELP NEEDED

@47203 - what is the mistake? maybe it is something the IRS will find?

DO NOT AMEND UNTIL THE IRS HAS COMPLETELY PROCESSED THE ORIGINAL RETURN.  it will other just makes things worse.

HELP NEEDED

@47203 We do not really know what you mean by "re-filed" nor do we know who you are referring to when you say  "with Nicholas from Florida."   Please explain clearly what you tried to do.   Have you filed an original 2021 tax return?   Did you e-file it or did you mail it?   Has that return been fully processed yet?   Did you receive your refund?

If your original return has not been fully processed then please stop and wait for it to be processed.   Do not amend or try to "re-file"--or you will complicate everything and cause delays.

the number 8 in my itemized deduction A is different amount how can i correct

It is different than what number?    Home Mortgage Interest is broken down into 3 different numbers on Schedule A

8a - interest and points from Form 1098

8b - interest not on Form 1098

8c -  points not on Form 1098

The amount of mortgage interest you entered may be limited.   Look at your Home Mortgage Interest Worksheet to see how the amounts were calculated.    And the links explain what qualifies as deductible home mortgage interest and points.     @pocho15

In addition to itemizing, these conditions must be met for mortgage interest to be deductible:

  • The loan is secured, which means the lender has some kind of guarantee of payment, usually in the form of property. If a borrower defaults on payments, the lender can seize the property that’s securing the loan. If you’re buying or refinancing a home, especially if it’s your first home, the loan is usually secured by the home you’re buying or refinancing
  • The home with the secured loan must have sleeping, cooking, and toilet facilities
  • The debt can’t exceed $750,000 (or $1,000,000 if the loan was taken before December 16, 2017) to get the full deduction
  • You or someone on your tax return must have signed or co-signed the loan
  • If you rented out the home, you must have used the home more than 14 days during the tax year or 10% of the number of days you rented it out, whichever is greater
