Well as a follow-up finally they acknowledged receipt of my sons and daughters returns and has sent my son's check and says my daughter's check is on the way.
The interesting thing is my daughter's refund would be predicated on mine being filed correctly. Mine was originally filed and I received my check immediately as it was filed online. However I believe I am owed another $1,200 or so back due to the change in the unemployment compensation law.
I had heard they were going to catch up on these returns and automatically send people back extra money they are owed. I have no idea how they know this without opening every return and seeing if unemployment compensation factors in. I have not gotten anything yet. It's been at least three months. When I go to where's my refund it simply says my refund is processed which I did get my check... just not all of what I am now owed.
So now I guess I just sit and wait for a check to come and I'm not sure what to do if it never does!
The IRS is recalculating refunds for people whose AGI is $150K or below and who filed before the tax law that changed the amount of unemployment that is taxable on a federal return became effective.
The IRS began to send out the additional refund checks for tax withheld from unemployment in May. The refunds are being sent out in batches—starting with the simplest returns first. If you are eligible for the extra refund for federal tax that was withheld from your unemployment the IRS will be sending you an additional refund sometime during the next several months. TurboTax cannot track or predict when it will be sent. The IRS has not provided a way for you to track it, so all you can do is wait for the refund to arrive.
